On 5th March 2020, Ambassador Li Minggang met with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, and exchanged views on topics pertaining to the strengthening of bilateral cooperation and concerted efforts to combat the COVID-19 epidemic.

Ambassador Li said that under the strong leadership of President Xi Jinping, initial progress in China's ongoing fight against the COVID-19 epidemic has been made by the Chinese government and its people. All this progress is hard-won, mainly as a result of China's institutional advantages through scientific responses on the basis of "early diagnosis, isolation and treatment" and our people's great spirit of sacrifice. The epidemic is now under control in China followed by the gradual resumption of economic and social activities. We have full confidence in winning the final victory of the fight against COVID-19 in near future, as well as achieving this year's socio-economic development goals. Li also expressed gratitude to the Kuwaiti government and its people for Kuwait's sincere solidarity to China amid COVID-19 outbreak. The Chinese side stands ready to work with the Kuwaiti side to overcome the current difficulties and mitigate the impact on the bilateral relationship and people movements brought by the outbreak.

On his part, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad, on behalf the Kuwaiti government, expressed appreciation for China's efforts in fighting COVID-19, welcomed and admired the positive results currently attained, and affirmed Kuwait's full confidence to China in prevailing over the outbreak. Sheikh Ahmad said that Kuwait stands in solidarity with China and is willing to provide all necessary assistance in this regard. Kuwait would also like to strengthen bilateral cooperation and learn from China's experience in order to jointly address this public health challenge.
