On 2nd February 2020, Ambassador Li Minggang gave interview to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) and Kuwait Television (KTV), where he introduced the ground situation of the outbreak of novel coronavirus (2019-nCov) and highlighted the robust measures taken by the Chinese government and various social sectors and the positive effects obtained so far.
Ambassador Li stressed that since the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak, the Communist Party of China and the Chinese Government have attached great importance to the prevention and control of the outbreak, putting the people's safety and health as the top priority. President Xi Jinping has given several important instructions, and the CPC Central Committee has set up a leading group on battling the virus in a scientific, orderly and precise manner. The Chinese Government has carried out international cooperation with openness, transparency and high sense of responsibility and sharing information of the epidemic with the WHO, relevant nations and regions in a timely manner. We are now in a critical period of epidemic control. The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus highly values the robust and effective measures taken by the Chinese side, which has noticeably alleviated the spread of the virus to other countries, and expressed his confidence in China's capability to control the outbreak. The epidemic is generally preventable, controllable and curable. China has full confidence and capability to win the battle against the virus.
Li further noted that, the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait has been in close contact with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Health since the outbreak to share information about the outbreak in a timely manner and maintain communication on the movement of the two peoples. The Chinese side has noticed the preventive measures taken by Kuwait, and we understand Kuwait's concerns. However, as WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros stressed, it is necessary to remain calm and rational and not overreact under the current situation, and it is not recommended by the WHO to limit trade and movement. It is believed that Kuwait will fully respect the WHO's important recommendations, ensure regular personnel movements as well as economic and trade cooperation between China and Kuwait, and firmly support China in preventing and controlling the epidemic.
