On January 21, 2024, Ambassador Zhang Jianwei met with Kuwaiti Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Human Rights Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah.



Ambassador Zhang first expressed congratulations on Kuwait’s election as one of the members of the Human Rights Council for the term 2024-2026. China always pays close attention to the promotion and protection of human rights and has reached a historic solution to the problem of absolute poverty, said the Ambassador, adding that China fully respects and guarantees the right of people of all ethnic groups to freedom of religious belief. China has been actively engaged in global governance on human rights and firmly supports the Palestinian people in pursuing the just cause of restoring their lawful national rights. China stands ready to maintain closer cooperation with Kuwait on human rights affairs and work with the Kuwaiti side to promote greater fairness, justice, reason and inclusivity in global governance on human rights.


For her part, Jawaher applauded China’s remarkable achievements in the cause of human rights and appreciated China’s efforts for safeguarding the lawful rights of the Palestinian people. She emphasized that Kuwait and China share similar philosophies on human rights, both objecting to politicizing human rights issues or applying double standards to these issues. The Kuwaiti side will further enhance exchanges and cooperation with China in this regard.
