On December 5, 2023, Ambassador Zhang Jianwei met with Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Fawaz Al-Khaled Al-Sabah. They exchanged views on bilateral relations and exchanges and cooperation in various fields.

Ambassador Zhang recalled that Kuwait was the first Arab state of the Gulf to establish diplomatic relations with China and also the first Middle East country to sign Belt and Road cooperation documents with China. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 52 years ago, both countries have been committed to mutual support, friendship and cooperation. China will take the meeting between President Xi Jinping and Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal in September this year as a good opportunity to elevate our cooperation on various fronts to a higher level under the BRI framework and create an even brighter future of China-Kuwait relationship.

For his part, Fawaz said the Kuwaiti people always cherish profound friendship toward China. The Kuwaiti side will work hard with the Chinese side to implement the important consensus reached between the leaders by enhancing people-to-people exchanges, fostering practical cooperation and exploring town twinning. In this way, Kuwait-China strategic partnership will make greater progress.
