On December 4, 2023, Ambassador Zhang Jianwei met with Farwaniya Governor Sheikh Mishal Al-Jaber Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah. They exchanged views on bilateral relationship and how to strength subnational exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.

Ambassador Zhang said our two countries have a profound traditional friendship. Over the years, we have continued to deepen political mutual trust and engaged in productive cooperation on various fronts. In September this year Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal attended the opening ceremony of Hangzhou Asian Games and had a bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping. They reached a series of important consensus, charting the course for future growth of our relations. Looking ahead, China is ready to work with Kuwait to better synergize our development strategies and deepen our cooperation at the subnational level and in various areas, in order to share development opportunities with each other.

For his part, Mishal stressed that China is always Kuwait’s important partner for development. Kuwait-China cooperation has kept deepening over the years and given strong impetus to local economic and social development. “I will work, in my capacity as a local official, with China to well implement the important consensus reached between the leaders of our two nations, expand exchanges and cooperation at the subnational level and make due contribution for the growth of bilateral relationship,” he said.
