Notice on the Issue of Health Codes During the Period of Flight KU419 Suspension to Passengers Leaving Kuwait for China via a Third Country
2022-03-14 20:35

The Kuwait Airways flights bound for China have been suspended under China’s circuit-breaker mechanism after multiple imported cases of COVID-19 were confirmed on the flights. The information released on the official website of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) shows that starting from March 14, 2022, Kuwait Airways Flight KU419 will be halted, which means four China-bound direct flights of the Kuwait Airways previously scheduled between March 14 and May 15 will be all cancelled.

As the epidemic situation is still grim across the globe, international travelers, especially those who will have international transfers, are vulnerable to possible cross-infection. The Chinese Embassy in Kuwait (the “Embassy”) kindly reminds passengers once again to avoid unnecessary and non-urgent travels and reduce cross-border trips. Passengers are advised to choose a trip itinerary with only one transit in a third country, if travels to China are truly necessary and urgent during the period of suspension as stated above. The Embassy will issue health QR codes to qualified passengers leaving Kuwait for China via a third country. Details are given as below.

  1. Apply for health QR codes. For passengers leaving Kuwait for China via a third country, applications for health QR codes will still be processed by the Embassy in accordance with its currently effective standards for HS/HDC codes which could be found in the notice dated January 3 published by the Embassy, available at http://kw.china-embassy.org/chn/lsfw/lstx/202201/t20220103_10478489.htm. Passengers are also advised to understand the testing requirements of the involved airlines prior to your trips.

2. Transit requirement. Only one transit is allowed in principle. Transit by car, bus, train, plane or other means of transport will be considered as a transit.

3. Duration of transit. For how long passengers are allowed to stay while transiting in the transit country is subject to the requirements announced by the Chinese Embassy in that transit country. Thus, passengers are advised to read such requirements published on the related Chinese Embassy’s website or inquire about their requirements beforehand, so as to avoid the risk of being stranded at the airport.

This notice shall take effect as of March 12, 2022. Beginning from 00:00 the day when Kuwait Airways flights to China are resumed, the Embassy will no longer issue health QR codes to those passengers that will leave Kuwait for China via a third country. Passengers are advised to keep a close eye on the policy updates and contact the Chinese Embassy in the transit country before planning your trips, if your travels to China are truly necessary. This will help you avoid unnecessary loss.
